Vectors of the Mind

The realization of the mind’s potencies, as we have said many times, occurs through the establishment of correspondence between the elements of the psycho- and macrocosmos — a process that unfolds through awareness.

In this way, an undifferentiated Power of life is transformed into an ordered Power of awareness. Yet the very act of transforming powers — awareness itself — requires a certain “impulse,” a spark that ignites energies in their mutual resonance.

In other words, it is not enough to bring energies into correspondence; one must also “open the vessel” — that is, actualize this correspondence. This requires overcoming a barrier of perception: a Power that holds the mind in the “stable” position of its current description.

In essence, Magic is a set of approaches aimed precisely at creating bridges through which Power can enter the mind — approaches that make it possible to raise the mind’s functioning beyond the “ordinary.” And although, as is well known, any aware action is “magical,” overcoming the mind’s barriers periodically requires actions not used in everyday life. “Daily” existence demands only what ensures survival and keeps the mind functioning at a basic level. These methods that advance the mind are usually called Magic, though strictly speaking they constitute only its surface stratum.

Overcoming the mind’s barriers requires special instruments — means by which energy can be added and the mind developed.

Since, as we have already noted, the current of Power can be described in two ways, Magic uses additional vortices and vectors to expand the mind.

Vortical “impulses” form the basis of competitive rituals; vector Currents are used in “inner Galdr.” Depending on which principles of the psychocosmos require support, both of these approaches may be applied sequentially or in parallel.

From the standpoint of the development of the mind, the chief task of any Ritual is not the obtaining of one or another effect — an “external” realization— but the expansion of the boundaries of perception, the increase of the Power of awareness; that is, self-realization.

A unique system of support that helps to order and realize the Currents of the mind is the Runes.

That form and degree of the mind’s vectorization that is shaped through interaction with these Signs can be of great value: it develops the principle of intelligence without harming the principle of feelings. The runic spirit — the spirit of the warrior-poet — enables the mind to attain a high degree of harmony, making it highly effective.

The process of carving Runes — regardless of how it occurs “technically” — brings the psychocosmos into contact with a highly ordered system of energies, inducing the cosmization of the mind itself.

The creation of Runic talismans, the writing of vis, or even non-traditional “runic gymnastics” or “meditations on the Runes,” when approached with sufficient seriousness, can provide invaluable assistance in the development of the mind.

Moreover, the reverse is also true: every time a Magus attempts to order his mind, he — willingly or unwillingly — encounters Runic powers. For example, by training himself to bring a matter to completion, he activates the power of Ingwaz; by ordering the attainment of a result — Fehu and Jera. Each time he cultivates within himself a sense of the universe’s all-unity, a Magus brings into his mind the vector Eihwaz; and by effectively confronting spontaneity, he introduces into the psychocosmos the vector Perthro.

A clear understanding of the nature, particularities, and field of action of each vector gives the Magus the opportunity to greatly expand his influence on the realization of the mind’s potencies, and thus to increase the effectiveness of his existence.
