The Smell of Sulfur

demon

The human mind, in its ordinary condition, finds itself functioning as an energy generator for consumers that are non-essential to it. These consumers —predators and parasites — may be interpreted in different ways, yet their essence as provocateurs of Power-loss is perfectly evident.

The magical myth delineates, with sufficient clarity, two principal categories of such consumers: those integrated into the mind (parasites) and those external to it (predators).

We have already said that any beings that necessarily feed on energy produced by other beings, and that hinder the development of their victims’ mind, are called Demons (in the broad sense of the word).

Demons may have differing natures and origins; however, their aim in interacting with any energy-generating being is always simple — to eat.

At the same time, being absolutely dependent upon the producers of “red” light, they perceive with extreme hostility any attempt by these producers to gain independence and cease being a “raw-material appendage.”

Particularly active in this respect are the “liminal” spirits, which have access to Currents of Power and are capable of intruding into regions bordering on darkness, thereby facilitating its active dissemination.

The absolutely black Qliphothic Demons of the Qliphoth, of course, are far more destructive, more somber, and stronger in their destructive striving; however, they are isolated from the worlds of the Tree by a firm Threshold and therefore, fortunately, cannot — except in exceptional cases — act directly even in the “grey” regions. Even if they manage to break out (and such cases are wholly catastrophic), they are rather quickly driven back by the descending forces of angels. Hence these Demons require that bubbles of light — beings and entire worlds that have fallen out of the Sephirothic system — should sink to their sinister bottom.

It is precisely this function that the “grey” Demons perform —goetic Demons and beings akin to them.

As soon as a Magus begins to build up Power, he immediately draws the attention of such beings for two reasons.

First, the more Power he has, the more he becomes potential prey for larger predators.

Second — and this is more essential — the more effective the Magus, the greater a threat he represents to consumer forces, since he not only ceases to be a feeding-trough for them himself; he can also lead others after him, depriving legions of Demons of sustenance.

Accordingly, a Magus whom Demons do not attack ought to reflect on how effective his Way truly is, if he is of no interest to predators. The grim reality is that in ninety cases out of a hundred, those who do not participate in battles are not those who have attained the Light and gone beyond duality, but those who sit in a cage, ignoring — for some reason — this fact. In such a case, the absence of resistance is explained not by the integration of the binary, but by absorption in one of its poles.

Demons are not the sort who simply allow a victim to slip away, sending an airy kiss and waving a white handkerchief after them.

Therefore the atmosphere around a successful Magus is always heated.

If the Magus does not wish to, or cannot, expend sufficient Power on protection, he either falls victim to deception— when “dummies” are slipped to him in place of the Way, hooking him on bright illusions — or else he simply perishes.

A successful Magus is one who passes through many battles and survives them, developing his awareness despite all attempts to return him to the condition of a victim.

For this, one must be alert, cultivate within oneself a state of protectedness, and respond swiftly to climatic changes around and within oneself.

It is not for nothing that the appearance of a Demon is accompanied by the smell of sulfur.

This is the feeling of anxiety that a Magus must be able to catch, so that he can react to an attack in time.

Looking around, remaining sensitive and attentive, is necessary for the Magus not only to seize the chances granted by Power, but also (no less importantly) to cut short the incursion of predators.

  1. Not all attackers smell of sulfur 🙂 And the sensations of anxiety, compression, sudden silence… can give a bonus of 1-3 seconds. It’s important not just to know about the attack, but to be able to prepare for it in a few seconds. Usually, the small ones are not immediately beaten to death, so train from a young age:)

    • The smell of sulfur is an image, an archetype. The appearance of Lucifer is accompanied by the fragrance of flowers, as it is with many other Archdemon. But, in a certain sense, these flowers do smell of sulfur. One of the important tasks of a magician is to be able to smell the sulfur through the fragrance of flowers. It’s about the feeling, about the tension, about the intensity of the situation. About the ability to discern. The “small ones” are usually not beaten at all, but rather convinced that they are the Great and Powerful. And they can call others “small ones.”

  2. It’s unclear. The power of a magician is his awareness, i.e., white light. Demons feed on red. Why would a demon want to eat a magician? Logically, it follows that the higher the awareness, the more powerful and differential the force. In other words, the brighter the white light, the brighter the red, right?

    • Obtaining Power necessarily goes through a stage of “red” light, and the subsequent expansion of awareness – including. In other words, the wider the awareness, the more actively it develops, and thus – larger amounts of Life energy are transformed into awareness, that is – the magician operates with much larger quantities of activated energy. Thus, of course, he becomes an attractive prey.

  3. “Therefore, these demons need the bubbles of light to fall onto their sinister bottom – beings and entire worlds that have fallen out of the Sephirothic system. This is precisely the function that the ‘gray’ demons perform – goetic demons and similar entities.” It results in a kind of “hierarchy of darkness.” As I understand it, the “gray” demons, unlike the “black,” are capable of sneaking into our world, corrupting people so that they fall into the “kitchen” of the “black?” It resembles the classic legend of selling one’s soul to the devil and ending up in hell after death. What’s the sense for the “gray” ones to help the “black” stuck in the clipot?

    • The gray ones do not help the black ones. They merely feed on their own possibilities. But by putting beings on the path of destruction, they contribute to their clipotization and fall into the inframundane.

  4. There’s another point. The gray ones do not always come with the intention to eat. They offer certain advantages, and in return, the magician must become a channel supplying “food” to the gray ones (I think there’s no need to explain). They even show impressive “tricks” meant to convince one of their “good” intentions. The falseness is noticeable, but if a person is “happy to be deceived”, then it’s possible they won’t resist temptation. And they have different smells. Burnt wool smells like demons. They appear at a moment when you least expect it. And if you don’t strike back right away with an advantage, you will surely fall prey to their meaninglessness. If you weaken – wait, if the entrances are open, if the fire is fading inside you, and even if your strength is running out, gather them for the blow to the “stone.”

  5. So, the burned wool smells like sulfur. The proteins from which wool consists contain a lot of sulfur – this is just a side note. One of the favorite tricks of demons is to surround themselves with a romantic halo. “Dark romantic” – there is such a category of people who romanticize relationships with the Darkness (and as it turns out, with the “gray”), which do not happen through the Sword, Triangle, and Pentagram. That is, they firmly believe that demons genuinely want to be their friends 🙂

  6. I think it’s unlikely that an ordinary person (like an average statistical one) would tremble at “dark romanticism” and reach out to “dark aesthetics.” If it exists, then I think there are two options: a person is influenced by the iburim/dibukim of the “Dark Forces,” or they have some affinity for the “dark” for some reason. The first option is clear, it’s a kind of artificial (external) interest in the “dark.” The second option is very complex and not so straightforward. On the one hand, such people will be able to enjoy working in jobs from which others would shy away, and someone has to work those jobs. And why can’t dark aesthetics be aesthetics? Who is the judge? On the other hand, there arises the main question about the consequences of such passion. Could this be one of the Magical Paths? If one reads the recently translated essay by T. Karlsson on the Dracoian tradition (see “Inverted Tree”), it quite convincingly discusses the development of consciousness, personal responsibility, and free will on such a Path. It all boils down to one question – who is the judge?, who determines the consequences?

  7. Oh, this Karlsson. Many have had their brains messed up by him. If you want – I can send you my essay where I write what I think about this. Or I can provide a relevant link (whichever is more convenient for you). In short – Karlsson writes about a path whose goal does not exist (since it cannot exist in principle) – this is mathematically proven. Furthermore, ‘initiation’ according to the Klioptic Tree can only yield an illusion of some kind of achievement (due to the deceitful nature of demons). In short, schizophrenia, schizophrenia, schizophrenia. And as the finale of this schizophrenia – thinking that one has become the One and Almighty God. An inflation of the Ego taken to the extreme.

  8. A fundamental article, thank you, I found answers to my questions. I really like the balanced approach where it is not asserted that there is only white and black, and any color different from white must necessarily be considered black. Having somewhat familiarized myself with Thelema, it seemed to me that it is some kind of religion, which immediately repelled me. Perhaps it’s worth looking into this direction more closely. The Abysses have very little information available in the public domain.

  9. “It all boils down to one thing – who is the judge?, who determines the consequences?” – Again, the consequences are determined by nature itself, the essence of what you strive for. Secondly – the principle possibility of achieving something. If the goal of the path is derived from incorrect representations of Man/God/The Universe, then where will such a path lead? If you read Crowley’s works, particularly “Magic in Theory and Practice,” and more specifically, his essay “The Star is Visible” (in the appendices to MTP), where he writes about the Order of A.’.A.’. and what the essence of tasks and achievements at various degrees consists of, he examines such a concept as “Black Brothers.” A Black Brother must inevitably perish sooner or later (although for some time he may prosper). But he must perish not because someone judges him, but due to his relationship with the Universe, structured accordingly. As I believe, Thomas Karlsson’s Magical System is essentially the Path of the Black Brother (with the distinction from the Crowleyan concept that in Karlsson’s system you embark on the path leading to Black Brothers from the very beginning). On the other hand, a magical system that only operates with the Klioptic Tree may simply transfer the practitioner into the ranks of demons. And do you want that – to lose your advantages as a human and become a servant spirit? Do you want someone to summon you into a Triangle?

  10. Yes, personally I do not like such a path; I have no desire to become a demon. It’s just not clear what is meant by the “destruction” of the Black Brothers, demons? Will there be a historical point when the Kliopt is destroyed? What will then support the balance? And what is “destruction” in general?

  11. These are all complex questions. It may be so, it may not – the paradox of the situation is that the destruction of the Kliopt will mean the end of the manifested Universe – as the Easterners say – the transition from Manvantara to Pralaya. Therefore, rather the question is not about the destruction of the Kliopt, but about them knowing their place.

  12. As for the “destruction of the black brothers” – the Black Brothers are likely something like lost magicians, but at a more advanced level. Perhaps the Elementals are just them. Perhaps those who become Black Brothers over time become Elementals. And perhaps among the Elementals, there are simply those who once embarked on the Path of the Black Brother.

  13. “The dishonorable Velial has no other desire but to hide and obscure the true divine wisdom, in order to have more opportunities to blind ignorant people and lead them by the nose; so that they remain in their ignorance and delusions and do not discover the path that leads to true wisdom; for otherwise both he and his kingdom will be in chains, and he will lose the title he has appropriated as ‘Prince of This World,’ becoming a slave to man. This is why he seeks to exterminate and utterly destroy this sacred wisdom. I urge everyone to beware and not neglect the path and wisdom of the Lord, and not to succumb to the temptations of this demon and his minions; for he is a liar and will remain one forever; but let the truth thrive forever; for by following and faithfully obeying what I have written in these three books, we will not only achieve the desired goal but also come to know in deeds and feel the grace of the Lord and the genuine help of his sacred angels, who take great joy in seeing that man obeys them and strives to fulfill the Lord’s commandments and follow their instructions. Such are the prescriptions of which I particularly insist.” – (“The Book of Sacred Magic of Abramelin”, Part 1, Chapter 9) – this is what actually lies behind the different “Paths of the Left Hand,” “Dracoian Traditions,” Thomas Karlssons with Michael Ford, and so on.

  14. This publication helps to understand that human consciousness is an energy generator, i.e. a process, a flow that needs cleanliness, protection, and development. This flow represents an object of hunting for predators as it is the most valuable thing a person has.
