Dancing in the Heavens

As we have discussed, the Myth we are considering uses as its starting point the emergence of the First duality — the differentiation within the indeterminate Unity of the biner Subject–Object, Mind-Being, SpiritMatter, the Father–Mother of existence.

At the same time, any existence is androgynous, the product of the interpenetration of these primordial principles, for Being is inconceivable without mind just as mind does not exist without a support in the environment. Just as the medium “in itself”, “pure being”, is potential, undifferentiated and homogeneous, so too “mind in itself”, the “pure spirit”, is unmanifested, featureless and undirected.

At the same time, since the nature of Being is homogeneous and mind’s nature is to differentiating capacity, the Myth says that mind is a stream of states, matrices, manifesting through reflection in the “mirror” of the Medium.

The manifested world is described precisely as the aggregate of such reflections, through which the Supreme binary principle reintegrates into its integral whole. This process, as we have already said, is called the Absolute’s self-knowledge in the totality of its differential aspects.

In other words, the whole assemblage of beings and entities that constitutes the manifested world is regarded as the means and the form of this mutual interpenetration, the reintegration of Being and mind. Accordingly, the purpose of any manifested form is active awareness, the knowing of oneself in the world and the world in oneself.

Nevertheless, among the matrices of consciousness there is a large collection of available states that have no direct basis in Being and can manifest only “indirectly”, as a result of contact with other active forms and states of mind. Traditionally all these matrices belong to the “potential” Sephira Da’at and are grouped under the name “initiatory” matrices, or “Spirits of Wisdom”, and in the language of modern psychology they are usually assigned to the sphere of the superego.

To the manifest mind all these forms usually seem external, above it, and therefore located somewhere in the ” divine” sphere. At the same time, unlike truly divine forms, the Enlightening matrices have no independent existence and are activated only through contact with other “real” (that is, medium-dependent) streams of consciousness.

The Western Myth, unfortunately, did not develop a systematized body of ideas concerning the nature of and the ways of interacting with the Enlightening spirits, although many theurgic operations and questing rituals (for example, the Abramelin ritual) are aimed precisely at the activation of these matrices.

The Eastern Myth, by contrast, paid much more attention to this issue, and indeed much of Buddhist deity yoga and Buddhism’s Tantra in general, is dedicated precisely to enlightening forms of consciousness.

Among such matrices the Matrices of Wisdom (Prajna) are especially prominent; interaction with them can quickly and effectively cleanse the mind of obscuring elements. To describe these matrices, Buddhist Tantra uses the images of fierce ancient Indian goddesses from the retinue of the Great Mother Kali — the dakini (Tib. khandroma, “those who traverse the sky”). The “heavenly” nature of the dakini is associated with their lack of involvement in “obscured” existence, and their wrathful character with their fierce opposition to beings’ inclinations to remain within the cycle of rebirth.

Accordingly, interaction of the manifest mind with these matrices can provide the mind with wisdom needed for liberation, while activation of the analogous “male” constituents — the daka, the idam — helps discover the method for liberation. In fact, the Thelemic “Holy Guardian Angel” is an example of such a daka.

However, regardless of the terminology or imagery a practitioner uses, interaction with the Enlightening matrices is a necessary component of the Way and an integral part of any transcendence, initiation that takes place with it.

Accordingly, understanding the nature of these interactions and developing approaches to establish them is important for a Magus’s development seeking self-development, self-knowledge, and self-liberation.

  1. Question. You wrote about beings that ‘have no place in creation.’ Either initially or as a result of some redistribution of the Cosmos. How do they fit into this scheme? After all, they seem to have no Being? But there is consciousness? Then what is the fundamental difference? Or how?

    • The word ‘being’ means that it exists, that is – it has being. Nevertheless, indeed, the Myth introduces two states of being – manifested, or actual, and unmanifested, or potential. And when we speak of ‘being,’ we usually ‘by default’ imply its actual form. Potential forms of being only manifest themselves in contact with actual ones, and actually, it is only in this way that one can understand the presence of various possibilities, potentials – and this is the essence of the process of manifestation or creation of the world. Similarly, potential forms of consciousness – such as those mentioned in this article, and also various ‘inhabitants’ of ‘virtual’ spaces – the world of dreams – can only be discovered when in contact with actual ones.

      • If we speak in the language of physics, should we imply closed objects under the potential field? ‘Each object manifests in space only to the extent that it exchanges energy with other objects of that space. If an object does not exchange energy with other objects at all, then it does not exist in the field of perception of external observers. In this case, we can speak of an energetically closed object. However, closure does not mean that the object does not exist at all; it is simply outside the space of our perception…’
        ‘… A closed object in one space can be open in another space, with which it resonates. This allows for the existence of parallel spaces that, in a certain sense, ‘do not notice’ each other’s existence, until some object of one space closes within it and interacts with another space…’
        Potential being is as real as actual being. I will emphasize this for myself, as it is difficult to accept that something can live outside your consciousness, something that is considered ‘ephemeral’. But life, is meant to perceive it in full volume.

        • To begin with, one must define the terms. 1) The so-called potential being here is the original reality in its pure form, not manifested in the form of forms, thus not describable; 2) The so-called actual being here is illusory reality – in the form of forms, a manifested state, described as far as the describer’s capabilities allow; 3) The so-called reality here is illusory in that it consists of forms, and forms are, by their nature, illusions arising from potential being. Thus, potential being is the only real thing, not limited by any forms. Actual being is a temporarily existing limitation of potential being. Whoever has learned the state of equilibrium at the border of potential and actual being is the final product of this whole endeavor. Not falling into either extreme, free from everything, with limitless possibilities, in which there is even no need.

  2. Is the attainment of a rainbow body (complete dematerialization of the physical body within 7 days after death) identical in Eastern tradition to self-liberation, or can self-liberation also happen with ordinary death?

    • ‘The rainbow body’ as one form of transformation of the physical body can indeed be evidence of complete liberation, however, it is not the only such evidence and is not an obligatory component of it.

    • “A person always experiences what they believe in.” But to be more precise and in the language of physics, they experience what resonates with them))

  3. Essentially, this article was supposed to give an understanding that all human Thoughts are reflections that change their reality. But has this understanding emerged, and has it been achieved? I am not sure. Again, it is primarily asserted that the main thing is Enlightenment, some sort of ‘conversation’… Where is the soul of Enmerkar, where is the embedded understanding that our matrices are what We invest in this world and reap the fruits of that darkness, which consumes this world?

    • But, after all, there are no ‘us’) There are no ‘thoughts of people’) There is no separate ‘reality’) There is only a play of shadows on the screen of the One)

      • Well, great. Let’s then develop the topic here that all movements of beings are merely a way of generating energy of the world (worlds) … I am not sure we will be understood here.

      • In general, the joke is accepted. And if it concerns my past statements, then most likely you either misunderstood me or confused me with someone. I do not recognize the term ‘supra-real ‘reality. Reality is one, singular, but within it, there are layers, reflections, and these reflections, while not visible to our eyes, exist in our perception. The thoughts of people create this world as generators of ideas, and I have always spoken about this, urging to articulate their desires.

        • The question is not who recognizes what or not. Each Myth is self-contained and self-valuable, yet it is neither better nor worse than others. It is just easier for some to walk using one Myth, while for others using a different one. But trying to discuss one Myth using another is certainly not a productive endeavor. I do not intrude with comments to those who are using other pictures of the Myth)

          • Yes, you are right. If you noticed, I have stopped intruding, trying to accept your vision and not nitpick. Why does it sometimes hit? You know that I started my journey from this Blog. Next year will mark 10 years since I have been here. Six years in school and forces are being taught to us. This is not fantasy. How this happens is not important. My knowledge is not a myth; it is part of the knowledge on which the Laws are based, not only of our world but also of the Sphere. To put it simply, I care about what is presented and explained. If this blog aims to educate magicians, it should be complete. You, Enmerkar, matter to me; therefore, I ask you not to hold a grudge against me for my nitpicking and corrections. By the way, I invite you to my school for acquiring new experiences. Sorry if anything is wrong.

  4. …or maybe there are no ‘us’, which were invented by some of us who exist…… if we discard all the correct and incorrect, from someone else’s point of view, words, then under the veil there should be that Primordial Truth which is entirely devoid of any words………………………. but it remains elusive and inexpressible, especially when ‘we’ or ‘not we’ attempt to describe it with words…..

Rhythm…. from words…… it is impossible to describe with words how to enter the necessary rhythm that facilitates realization……… but that Rhythm can be passed from person to person…. to re-tune the Living System…
