The transition to the generation of Neutrality at the level of Forms leads to the affirmation of a stream of energies that shape the Principle of the Human Being — that set of forces whose full or partial manifestation in a being makes it possible to call that being human.
Passivity at the level of Forms manifests as an instrument consonant with the will of the operator, allowing him to alter the mode of his interaction (his coordinates) with the surrounding environment.
The alphabetic system that emerged after the Departure of the Fairies into the Sid in the British Isles was Ogham. Although the earliest Ogham inscriptions date to the fourth century, the system probably goes back to much earlier times; nevertheless it was for a long period scarcely used for writing — indeed, the vast majority of Ogham inscriptions are funerary: epitaphs and sometimes fragments of spells.
We have already said that ceremonial Magic operates predominantly with ministering spirits.
Now it is time to clarify why these Spirits are called Demons or Fallen Angels.
Although Runes as a realizational-magical instrument possess considerable power, they, like all that is embodied, have limits to their capabilities.
The striving of Activity to be reflected in Plasticity, to expand, is expressed at the level of the Third Atta by an irresistible force — irresistible precisely because it combines with care and tenderness.
This nourishing energy expresses the Principle of motherhood, compassion, care, and the source of new life.
We have already observed that the First aett of the Elder Futhark traces the cycle of the birth of Being, the Second confirms its Laws, and the Third gives form to its outward existence. Thus it is unsurprising that the most active rune of the Third aett — the one that sets all its motion — is the rune that declares, “every victory is purchased at the price of sacrifice.”
In our conversations about the Runes we have repeatedly noted that Runes are a symbolic expression of flows of Power.
I would now like to draw attention to the fact that any Flow can be considered in two ways: on the one hand as a vector with definite coordinates and length, and on the other as the content of that flow, its inner current.
The second att, like the others, concludes with preparation for the transition to the next turn. Since this att concerned a person’s personal efforts—the laws of his individual existence—within such an individual myth the kinetic energy accumulated over the preceding seven Runes pours forth in a powerful release of force.
Receptivity at the level of the Second Atta manifests as the ability to sense danger in advance, which is sometimes even more important than the possession of strength.
Since echoes of Native American magic reached us, the notion of the “Hunt for Power” has entered common usage, spread, and, as often happens, become profaned.
But is it alien to European magical traditions?
On the level of the Second aett the transition from Neutrality to Receptivity gives rise to fluctuations in the surrounding environment.
These fluctuations are a direct consequence of the intrusion of the Lower World’s forces (which occurred at the stage of Eihwaz) into the Middle World, and are described by the Rune Perthro (the lot, sometimes the womb, Perthro).
The thirteenth rune of the Elder Futhark, in its neutrality, unites life and death into a single whole.
The rune Eihwaz (Yew) embodies the continuity of the cosmos as a single flow, encompassing the union of above and below, of actual and potential being.
