The idea of “spiritual purity” is highly popular both among religious fanatics and among those striving for the greatness of the “Enlightened”.
People often conclude that any being is doomed to absolute, transcendental solitude and cannot in principle be understood by any other being. How justified is this conclusion?
We have repeatedly noted the exceptional role gods play in magically oriented mythology: those who bind the threads of life, who steward plants and animals, and who channel the Great Flow of Power into the backwaters of specifically embodied entities.
Among the numerous Demons known to the Magi of Europe, only one, besides Lucifer, is mentioned in virtually every Grimoire — from the “Lemegeton”, the “True” and the “Great” Grimoires, to the “Book of Dr. Faust” — Astarot.
Among the Radiant figures who uphold the foundations of the Cosmos, the figure of the Great Guardian, the Mighty Earth God, occupies a central place in every mythology.
Though he is rarely at the head of any people’s pantheon, this God has nonetheless always enjoyed exceptional veneration as the Lord of life and death.
Magic begins with overcoming the fear of facing oneself.
And that fear is not accidental. If one peers into the depths of oneself, one can discern an alien, malicious and treacherous being hiding there.
Where did it come from?
The Four Great Rulers of the cardinal directions, who govern the kiners and, accordingly, the Spirits, enable a Magus who has contained their power and assumed their place to effectively command mighty forces.
The Third turn of the World Wheel is closed by the transcensus, which carries being to a new level, scarcely discernible from the present vantage. It must be noted that, unlike the gradual unfolding of the Cycle into Three stages, escape beyond its bounds always occurs by a leap, and the element of spontaneity is essential in that leap.
We have already said that Pagan myth accepts as the primordial basis of the cosmos the Supreme Biner — the Great Father and the Great Mother — who issued from the Depths of the Most High to effect the process of creation. At the first stage they remain undivided (Ymir, Rod), and it is precisely Their separation that creates the difference of potentials driving the World Process.
The final preparatory step that completes the Third Turn of the Cycle is withdrawing from affairs in order to seek the meaning of existence.
For this reassessment of values to take place, there must be a protected place in which no external influences can distract from the main goal.
The preparation of Neutrality for the generation of the next Cycle at the level of Forms manifests in the unfolding of a series of events that complete the entire three-part plot of the World Wheel’s movement through the Worlds accessible to human awareness.
Neutrality at the level of forms manifests as the element of the Unconscious, which neutralizes conscious impulses within itself, being both their source and the abyss in which they drown.
We have already said that the Magi understand power as the ability to realize one’s will. This ability is traditionally regarded as depending on two elements: the Power of Manifestation (or the so‑called “Life Force”), which determines physical health and the capacity for physical realizations and achievements, and the Power of Awareness (or the so‑called “Personal Power”), which determines the capacity for understanding and awareness—and therefore the application of knowledge.
