Why Does the Sea of Life Stir?

Various forms of life, belonging to different worlds, as we have often said, are separated from one another by a strong and almost impermeable barrier of perception, which sometimes thins out, bringing these forms into contact. Sometimes this interaction is a simple contact, sometimes cooperation or mutual aid, and sometimes war.

Differentiated consciousness emerges gradually from depths, in discrete waves, and each such wave offers optimal conditions for the Great Spirit’s self-knowledge in one of its aspects.

At the same time, one or several harmonious waves of consciousness, flowing into the dark sea of matter, form their mirror reflection within it; that is — they create “objective” conditions for their manifestation — thus worlds arise.

Note that the initial differentiation of each Wave of life takes place in the plastic medium of the Interworld, and only later does it enter the definite bounds of a particular world.

And already in the process of forming its “own” world, consciousness attunes to that world, ultimately forming a complex conglomerate of subjects and objects in which consciousness develops — actualizing its potentials.

At the same time, such a close bond of the Waves of life with the worlds that received them sometimes becomes an obstacle to consciousness itself, which seems to become ossified within rigid boundaries of its world, and new turns of development require a “softening” of that shell and a renewal of the world’s energy.

We have already said that this process is carried out by the great Power, the God-Disruptor, without whom very quickly each Wave of life, after exhausting its available possibilities for understanding its world, would come to a standstill.

Even when several Waves of life inhabit a single world, the interaction between them is extraordinarily fruitful for mutual development: for example, a human significantly changes their development by interacting with animals, plants and minerals, just as the Lower Kingdoms gain additional possibilities through interaction with humans.

Unfortunately, such interactions often fall under the sway of destructive forces and take on a destructive character, and instead of serving the development of consciousness, lead to its degradation — as occurs in various forms of exploitative and cruel treatment of nature.

An even stronger impetus to the development of consciousness is given by interactions between Waves from different worlds or to different aspects of a single world.

It is well known that, for example, according to an Irish epic, the earth itself was formed in the course of constant wars, on the one hand between representatives of different Waves, and on the other between constructive and destructive forms of consciousness.

It is hard to overstate how much humanity lost when the conflict between technogenic and anthropogenic development forced the Fairy folk back into the Interworld…

In fact, the entire meta-history beloved by theosophists recounts a sequence of contacts between the human mind and other forms, most of which, unfortunately, did not become a springboard for the human mind that they might have been.

This is why interaction with other forms of mind is highly desirable for a Magus. This urge is not only the result of natural adventurism in those born to Magic; it stems from an instinctive sense of the fruitfulness of such exchanges, their value for the development of consciousness, and therefore for the flow of Power.
