Squares and the Differentiation of Matrices

Lemegeton“, like other systems for classifying destructive matrices, of course has many forms and levels of application — ranging from simple, transactional evocations with people embodying these matrices aimed at personal gain, to techniques to heal the mind, to expand and develop it.

In the latter case, an extremely important task is making the correct ‘diagnosis’ — determining which destructive matrices and to what degree are active in a particular individual’s stream of consciousness.

Note that the destructors represented as demonic matrices reflect well-known properties of the psyche, properties studied and corrected in various therapeutic schools. However, the uniqueness of the goetic approach lies in the fact that these pathological matrices can be studied in “pure form” within ritual practice; one can speak to them directly and ascertain their individual properties and peculiarities. In many cases such objectification makes it possible to achieve far greater therapeutic effectiveness than other approaches that appeared later and are not as thoroughly developed.

Understandably, in any mind all 72 Gates are active in one way or another, so one can find both constructive and destructive matrices across a very wide spectrum. Nevertheless, for each person whose actions are ineffective or whose mind is not fully constructive, there usually exist several “dominant demons” — key points of energy loss, key destructive forces around which a host of secondary pathological activities may gather.

For such identification one can use various diagnostic markers in such texts: correlating demons with cardinal directions, planets, zodiac signs, etc.

Many approaches have been developed for such diagnostics, among them divinatory, astrological, calculation-based, ritual-evocative, and logical methods.

Nevertheless, in some cases it is difficult to diagnose precisely which destructive matrix is active in a given mind, since the manifestations of many share common traits.

For example, if it is discovered that a destructive matrix is rooted in a desire for showmanship, self-presentation, boastfulness, then such a manifestation may be underpinned by:

Valefor (6) – the urge to imitate leadership,

Focalor (41) – the desire to assert oneself by suppressing others,

Vepar (42) – the demon of bluffing,

Kaim (53) – the demon of empty talk,

Murmur (54) – the inclination to exaggerate one’s merits,

Vapula (60) – the bourgeois aspiration to aristocracy,

Zagan (61) – the demon of pretension,

Andrealphus (65) – the demon of affected refinement,

Kimaris (66) – the demon of affected coolness.

At the same time, depending on which (or which ones) of the matrices are actually active in the mind, one can determine both the method to counter them and the path to transform them.

For such differentiation, of course one can apply the evocative approach, which allows one to “sense” the energetic foundations of each matrix and the characteristic features of its manifestation. However, it is clear that this approach is neither simple nor safe, and is not recommended for widespread use.

As experience shows, analysis of the squares constructed from the tetragrammatical matrices of the destructors can also yield good results in such “differential diagnosis”.

Let us consider the squares of the demons mentioned.

It is not difficult to notice that, despite similar manifestations, the “inner” nature of these destructive matrices differs substantially:

Valefor: Strong influences of Venus (פ); at the root of the activity is an unfulfilled longing for unity. The reason for the showmanship is fear of rejection.

Focalor: Strong receptivity (ה). At the root of the destructor is a striving for comfortable existence, a desire to “shape the world to fit oneself” (to realize the harmony of threes).

Vepar: Influences of Venus (פ) combine with the desire for connection (ו) and inward orientation (ר). At the root of the destructor is the wish to convince oneself — to “believe in oneself” (to obtain the correspondence of the nines).

Kaim: Much watery energy (מ), loquacity, receptivity (ע). At the root of the destructor is the desire to “be useful” (7), to offer sound advice.

Murmur: Strong needs for “support” (ס), a desire to meet others’ expectations, not to let others down. At the root of the destructor is the childish desire to “please one’s parents”.

Vapula: Activity of Venus (פ) combines with mental processes (ר), and a strong desire for victory (Hermetic root 7). The destructor grows out of the striving to “earn respect”.

Zagan: Much egoism (א), emphasis on one’s own “expression” (ח), hope in one’s own will (5). The root of the destructor is compassion, a striving to be important, to “illuminate” others’ “worlds” with oneself.

Andrealphus: Verbal abundance (מ) combines with mobility, Martian expression (ד) and limited intelligence. A desire to “break down barriers” (7-2). The destructor grows out of the striving to “fix” the world, to bring it to conform to one’s weak view.

Kimaris: Egoism (א, 1) combines with a sense of confident navigation (נ). The pathology is rooted in a distortion of the striving to “lead others.”

It is also not difficult to notice that at the basis of such differentiation is finding the “root” of the destructor — the foundation that is distorted into counterproductive functioning.

A correct determination of the “diagnosis”, isolating the destructive matrices active in the given mind, allows one to outline several ways to free oneself from them.

Firstly, knowing the characteristics of a matrix (its elemental, planetary and other correspondences), it is possible to counter it with the constructive manifestations of those categories.

Secondly, possibilities arise for genuine Hermetic transformation: restoring matrices to their original state using Kabbalistic and alchemical methods.

Thus, the task of goetic diagnostics is to isolate the destructive matrices most active in the mind, so as to then transform them into the original matrices of the Gates — the corresponding Genii. This, precisely, is the Way to free the mind from these destructive matrices that bind it.
